Spring Trends To Take Advantage Of

Spring trends are always tricky to deal with when you fall into the darker alternative scene...
Florals, Pastels, Bright prints, sundresses, peep toe shoes.... Many things that don't fit into my wardrobe at all. However, there are some ways to make the latest spring trends work for you:

How to wear a spiked bra!

In response to a comment left on my DIY to do list by 1666 X 30, here are six ways I would suggest wearing a spiked bra.

Personally, I would like to wear it with my underbust corset, but I know that's not for every one. Spiked bras are pretty versatile though. They are easy to wear under an open jacket or vest with jeans (depending on how much skin you want to show), but can also be worn under loose fitting / off-the-shoulder shirts. Get an over sized t and snip until it fits!

Pink Goths: What are your thoughts on Pastel Goths?

I thought the poem was fitting.
I decided to talk about pastel goth today.

Basically pastel goth is goth with baby blues, lilac and pastel colors mixed in.See Below:

The Pink Look

The Pink Look by goth-proxy featuring a pink pantyhose

I feel it is heavily inspired by traditional goth, fairy kei and Lolita styles. However, tt strays away from the extreme accessories of decora and fairy kei and is lighter than traditional goth.

At first I was not a fan of pastel goth, but I have to say it's kind of growing on me. Gasp! I've even acquired pink clothing.

I know many condemn this sort of style to "Nu-Goth" or "Hipster-Goth." While some openly embrace the Nu-Goth style and label, it is generally seen as an insult to be described as such. to me, the label seems arbitrary... I've never been able to figure out what the difference between a nu-goth and a regular goth is. Except the nu-goths often have less dramatic (unteased, not necessarily black) hair....

Anywho. I kinda like Pastel Goth.
What are your thoughts? Is pink and pastels your nightmare or delight?

Fall Transitions

Hello Darklings!

As the autumn equinox grows closer, the days grow short and the weather gets colder, we must put away our t-shirts and mini skirts and sandals and wear cozy sweaters leather coats and boots....

Wait.
That doesn't sound hard. Not for one with goth tendencies anyways.
In fact, we revel in the cool weather. Layering black on black on black with heavy boots is what we do best. I personally love the heat, but I do have to admit most of my wardrobe, and many of my favorite outfits, are better suited for the cooler weather. and as some one who is always cold, it's nice to not have people questioning why I'm wearing a sweater and jacket.

Office tips

  1. It's easy to wear lots of dark colours and layers in the fall, and the goth look sort of naturally finds it's way into our outfits... On one hand, it's excellent that this is the style so we can feel more free to wear lots of dark colours with out being "too out there." But be careful, don't forget about the office setting you work in and keep in mind what will be appropriate for the environment. You don't want to scare your boss too much.

  2. (If you wear make-up) Try a lighter shade of make up. Neutral earthy tones and golds work well at this time of year, and present a nice alternative to black eye liner. They soften the lines and can reduce the "harshness" of an outfit.

  3. Knits are great. In the fall, heavy course fabrics and leather are a style staple, but too much can leave you looking like your ready for a gothy outfit, not work. Soften the look with knitted sweaters or shrugs.

  4. Greys and neutral tones are your friends. I wear black jeans / dress pants, a black long sleeved shirt and a black blazer, topped off with a black scarf and black shoes . While I love this look, it might not be the best for the office, most would say I look like I'm ready for a funeral. Some times this look works fine, and it really depends on your office environment. But when in doubt, introduce a pop of color, or try out some neutral tones and lighter greys.

From the office to the club

From the office to the club by goth-proxy featuring black bags

As a fan of alternative subculture, you will find yourself still going to goth bars, going to punk shows, going to meet ups and "fancy" fun dinners with your alternative buddies outside your working hours. And so you should! But first you go home to change, because there's no way you'd go out in a blazer and your one good pair of black tights that have no holes.
But what do you do when you work far from home, your outing is right after work or going home to change simply isn't an option?
Never fear, options are available.

Take Advantage of the Trends

Alternative subcultures revel in avoiding mainstream culture and fashion right? But what about when the mainstream borrows for the counter-culture fashion statements?
While some might despise the trends, I say indulge and take advantage of them! I personally love when the "dark alt look" becomes fashionable. It means the styles I love are easily accessible and I can often find them for more affordable prices; instead of having to order online or seek out a specialty shop, I can march into my local department stores, seek out the sales rack and find something I'll enjoy wearing.

Simply Stunning: Yohji Yamamoto Fall/Winter 2013

“Black is modest and arrogant at the same time. Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious. But above all black says this: "I don’t bother you - don’t bother me".” - Yohji Yamamoto

 Hello Darklings,
The summer is almost gone! This makes me sad, as I absolutely love the heat, but I know that many eagerly await the coolness of fall.  And while I do miss the heat already, I'm love fall and winter fashion. Particularily this new collection by Yohji Yamamoto. He never fails to provide dark yet sophisticated garments.

Lots of layers, dark neutral tone and lots of black. Loose fitting yet sleek. And some pretty stunning facial hair sported in his Homme collection.  I personally adore the look, What say you lovely readers? Let me know in the comments!
